The large blocks of glass used in these sculptures became available through the closure of the Pilkington Works in Whangarei. The raw material is selected firstly because of its interesting shape which suggests to the artist the possibilities which lie within. It is then carved and polished by hand with the aid of a variety of power assisted diamond tools. The work is slow and laborious with each piece taking many months to complete.
Stolen Sculpture The work "Kaitiaki" was stolen from the garden of the artist on 15th November 2007 The work "Oceanic Form" was also stolen from a gallery & then recovered.
